Jorethang, South Sikkim
Situated at an altitude of 300 m above sea level with a pleasant temperate climate is Jorethang, a major town in South Sikkim. It lies sprawled upon the foothills below which flows the Rangeet River, with the hills of Darjeeling looming large in the south on the opposite side of the river.
Jorethang lies on the way to Pelling and is well connected by buses and jeeps. River rafting, trekking and sightseeing trips to nearby destinations are some of the attractions available here. Present a few kilometers ahead of the town, near Legship is the Hot Springs which is a major tourist attraction due to the medicinal properties of the hotspring. There is also a Kirateshwar Temple that you can offer prayers too. The temple has its own myths and stories attached to it.
In January, each year, the biggest and most awaited date in Jorethang’s calendar is the Jorethang Maghe Mela. It is a major event, attracting hordes of locals and tourists. The mela is said to have evolved from the agricultural fair that was held in Jorethang for the first time in 1955. Hundreds of stalls selling and exhibiting various products are put up for the huge number of people who visit the fair. It is a great mix of local cultural extravaganza as well as modern day entertainment.

You can visit this place almost anytime of the year. The weather of Jorethang remains pleasant throughout the year and is more warmer and hotter than other places because of its low altitude.
HOW TO GET THERE
Airways: The nearest airport is in Bagdogra, West Bengal about 92 km from Jorethang. Sikkim also has got its first commercial airport at Pakyong, East Sikkim but weather hampers the operation of this airport most of the time. If you are lucky enough you can get a flight directly to Pakyong.
Railways: The nearest railway station is New Jalpaiguri (NJP) in West Bengal which is about 88 km from Jorethang and takes less than about 4 hours drive to reach this place.
Roadways: Jorethang is well connected to almost every part of Sikkim. It is about 22 km from Namchi and 86 km from Gangtok.
