Borong, South Sikkim
At a distance of 10 km from Ralang and 21 km from Ravangla, Borong Hot Springs are the natural spas located at Borong near Ravangla, Sikkim. Situated along the banks of River Rangit, these are the popular hot springs in Sikkim and among the famous places to visit near Ravangla.
Borong Hot Springs are famous for having sulphur rich water which is believed to have the therapeutic power to cure many diseases. Locally known as Borong Tsa-Chu, people come here to take a dip in this magical water of the hot spring. This place is also a trekker's bliss, guided by various thrilling trails and mind-blowing views of carpeted hills all around. The tourists here can also indulge into bird watching and chasing many colored butterflies.
Temporary huts are available at nominal rates for overnight stay but one need to carry own bedding and cooking utensils. During the peak season, small shops, selling basic vegetables & provisions, are setup and the local villagers sell dairy products. One can take a taxi to reach Borong from Ravangla and then one need to trek 3 km downhill, which takes around one hour to reach the Hot Springs. The trek is very steep and strenuous.
BEST TIME TO VISIT
Anytime of the year except the rainy season would be best time to visit this place. The weather of South Sikkim remains pleasant throughout the year, however if you are visiting in winter then don't forget to carry warm clothes as it can get chilly during this time of the year.
HOW TO GET THERE
Airways: The nearest airport is in Bagdogra, West Bengal about 125 km from Ravangla and abot 131 km from Borong. Sikkim also has got its first commercial airport at Pakyong, East Sikkim but weather hampers the operation of this airport most of the time. If you are lucky enough you can get a flight directly to Pakyong.
Railways: The nearest railway station is New Jalpaiguri (NJP) in West Bengal which is about 121 km from Ravangla and about 127 km from Borong. You can take a taxi to reach Borong via Ravangla, which takes about 4-5 hours.
Roadways: Borong is about 74 km from Gangtok, the capital city and about 32 km from Namchi and about 7 km from Ravangla.
